This week, Grade 1s started to explore the new unit under the transdisicplinary theme, Who We Are.
Our central idea is "A balanced lifestyle enables people to make responsible choices."
In this unit, we will look deeply into the following:
a. Importance of being balanced
b. How choices affect one’s health and well-being
c. Taking care of oneself
We began with understanding first how our food travels in and out of our body. We looked at the Grade 1s prior understanding of digestion as well as the organs responsible for it.
In groups, they traced the path of the food from ingestion to elimination.
Then we explored the right process of digestion and the parts of the digestive system.
We ended the week checking their understanding of the process. Our smart Grade 1s were able to articulate correctly the steps, explaining to some extent what happens to the food in each step.
Next week, we will look into the attribute of being BALANCED and the concept of balanced choices. We will also check on the lifestyle of the family members and later on reflect on the results.
