Reading the calendar

In Numeracy this week, Grade 1s explored the calendar. They were given pictures showing the calendars in the ancient times and they tried to make sense of its function by checking out the symbols present in them. They saw sime symbols of animals, shapes, zigzag lines, and others. Unfortunately, it was difficult to really figure out how the ancient calendar functions. They looked at how the calendar we are currently using look like. They immediately recognised the months, the days and the numbers for dates. Grade 1s' goal was to write the date in word format and number format. Word format follows this: day, date (in ordinal format) month and full year Number format follows this: date/month/year (last 2 digits)
