This week, the Grade 1s explored different ways on how to make objects move. They were put into groups and they were given the following objects to move: paper clip, marble, rock in the water, floating ball on water and .. paper. They were also given some choices of tools to use to make the objects move. However, they also have the option to use other tools they found around them.
The task was easy and they are knowledgeable about how to do it; yet, they found amazing ways that are unique from what the other groups did.
some of the ways they did or use to make the objects move are - hitting them with sticks, blowing them, shaking the base, using rubber band to flick, making them roll, tapping the container where the objects are, and a lot more.
Then we moved forward by placing the actions they did into two groups: pushing or pulling. Most of the actions they did were connected to pushing the objects - hitting with stick, blowing, rolling, etc. Pulling was shown when they use the rubber band to pull up the rock from inside the water.
Our exploration after this led us to the word FORCE. We defined FORCE as a push or a pull. In the next days, Grade 1s will further check on the kinds of forces through simple experiments to be done inside the classroom. :)
